The tree continuously produces new latex, making it a renewable raw material. In addition to approximately 60–80% natural rubber, rubber rings contain zinc oxide, sulfur, and calcium carbonate.

The quality of rubber bands depends primarily on their stretchability, elasticity, and tear resistance. These properties are influenced by the percentage of natural rubber in the material. The higher the natural rubber content, the farther the elastic bands can stretch without tearing. Another indicator of quality is the use of natural rubber instead of synthetic rubber manufactured from petrochemical raw materials. A temperature-controlled room protected from direct sunlight is ideal for storage. Rubber bands have a temperature resistance ranging from -40°C to +110°C. Exposure to temperatures outside this range or prolonged UV radiation can weaken the material, causing it to lose elasticity, stretchability, and tear resistance.
Rule of thumb: Store rubber bands in a dry place, protected from light, at approximately 20°C to maximize their service life.
How Environmentally Friendly Are Rubber Bands?
Natural rubber is based on a renewable raw material. It is obtained from the latex of rubber trees and is therefore a natural rather than synthetic raw material.
How Long Do Rubber Bands Last?
Rubber cannot be stored indefinitely. Ozone, oxygen, prolonged exposure to moisture, and UV light can cause rubber rings to become brittle.
