What are adhesive tapes?
Adhesive tape (also known as parcel tape or packing tape) is basically a narrow, self-adhesive film, which is usually made from polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Adhesive tape is wound onto a core to form a handy roll. The tapes can be used in many different ways, which is why they are available in many different versions. For example, they differ in terms of material, size, colour and type of adhesive.
An overview of our versatile adhesive tapes
Woven adhesive tapes: our durable fabric tapes are ideal for robust connections. Whether for household repairs, secure packaging or creative handicrafts - this fabric tape always shows its strength. We offer EXTRA STRONG fabric adhesive tape (like 3M adhesive tape) with particularly high adhesive strength and STANDARD fabric adhesive tape with thinner material and less adhesive strength.
Double-sided adhesive tapes: double-sided adhesive tape enables invisible connections that are perfect for use in decorating, carpet installation and other projects. From extra strong double-sided tapes to 3M double-sided tapes, we offer a wide range to meet the needs of various applications. And don't worry, removing double-sided adhesive tape is also easy.
Insulating tapes: with insulating tapes, you can repair minor damage to electrical cables. Unlike other adhesive tapes, these tapes are not electrically conductive. Electricians also use insulating adhesive tapes to label cables.
Marking tapes: especially during the pandemic, marking tapes were everywhere - whether in the supermarket, at the hospitals or in the office. Marking strips have been placed on the floor to indicate 1.5 metre safety distances. These tapes have excellent adhesion to many surfaces and can come off without leaving any residue if necessary.

Repair tape: Repair tapes have been specially developed for the repair of high-quality greenhouse films, grid films, silage films or agricultural stretch films. However, they are also suitable for all other types of films. The repair tape is UV-resistant for two to three years.
Foam adhesive tapes: Compared to conventional adhesive tapes, foam adhesive tapes are thicker, airier and more flexible. Foam adhesive tapes adhere particularly well to difficult-to-bond plastics such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP).
Features of adhesive tapes
The various adhesive tapes are characterised by special features. As the name suggests, all adhesive tapes have the main purpose of "sticking" in common. The type of adhesive and the adhesive power (adhesive strength) can differ.
Adhesive tapes are partially waterproof. In standing water, the adhesive can dissolve over time, which means the tape no longer fulfils its purpose. Adhesive tapes are waterproof against splashing water or rain.

What are the differences between adhesive tapes?
With so many different adhesive tapes to choose from, it can be easy to lose track. Adhesive tapes basically differ in four quality criteria:

The difference between PP and PVC adhesive tapes
The difference between PP (polypropylene) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride) parcel adhesive tape lies in the materials. PP adhesive tape is environmentally friendly, lightweight and tear-resistant. PVC adhesive tape is more resistant to moisture and chemicals. The materials cannot be distinguished from one another with the naked eye. There are three tests you can use to find out what material your adhesive tape is made of:
Ballpoint pen test:
Poke a hole in the middle of the tape with a ballpoint pen. If the tape tears off crosswise, then it is PP adhesive tape. If there is a hole in the centre without tearing, then it is PVC tape.
Flame test:
Carefully light the adhesive tape on fire. If it produces whitish smoke and little odour, it is PP adhesive tape. If there is a corrosive odour and soot formation, you have a PVC adhesive tape.
Stretch test:
Pull off a piece of the tape and stretch it across its width. If the tape colour remains the same, then it is a PP adhesive tape. If the tape changes colour, it is PVC adhesive tape.
What different types of adhesive are there for adhesive tapes?
Three different adhesives are used for adhesive tape (acrylate, natural rubber and hotmelt). These have different features with pros and cons, which is why the intended use determines the right type of adhesive.
Acrylate adhesive is highly transparent, easy to roll off and has a low initial tack. It has good UV, ageing and permanent adhesive strength. There are loud or quiet rolling adhesive tapes with acrylic adhesive.
Natural rubber adhesive is a mixture of synthetic resin and solvents and is therefore a genuine natural product. This adhesive sticks quickly, is very temperature-resistant and environmentally friendly. Adhesive tapes with natural rubber adhesive unroll quietly, but have poor ageing resistance.
Hotmelt adhesive is an adhesive with high initial tack. Tapes with this adhesive are very light but unroll loudly. The adhesive is sensitive to temperature fluctuations and UV exposure. It is not resistant to ageing.
Which type of adhesive tape is the strongest?
Our extra strong double-sided adhesive tapes offer high adhesive strength and strength for demanding applications. Premium PVC adhesive tape also offers very high adhesive strength for bonding medium to heavy cardboard packaging.
