Material of our grain sacks - better than linen, jute or paper
Conventional grain sacks are made of linen, jute or paper. We purchase sacks made of polypropylene (PP). Why? The properties and environmental footprint are convincing across the board. PP is a recyclable, very resilient plastic and free from plasticisers or heavy metals.
Not all plastics are bad. PP is a plastic that is better for the environment than others. Its recycling capability, in particular, is a very positive aspect. A compostable grain bag is manufactured at great expense and is only used once. Our PP grain bags can be used several times and then recycled.
Materials that result in these properties
The manufacturer carefully produces a fabric from PP film, which is sewn together to form a bag. They arrive at our warehouse via direct import. This results in outstanding properties:
- High-quality sack for grain (ribbon fabric of 75 g/m²)
- A stable base with high puncture resistance thanks to high-quality workmanship
- Tear-resistant and breathable fabric
- Suitable for heavy loads

The bag for grain is only food-safe to a certain degree. It is usually permitted for cereals or fruit and vegetables that are to be processed. To be on the safe side, please check with your customer. Alternatively, add a PE inner bag to the shopping basket when buying grain bags. It is suitable for food and therefore ideal for fresh goods.
Alternative applications for grain sacks
Due to its properties, a grain sack can be used for other purposes. In addition to grain, you can fill it with seed, animal feed or firewood. It can also be used as a disposal bag for glass wool or garden waste, for example. You can also fill it with sand if you want to retain water.
