What Does "Type XX" Mean?

When it comes to garbage bags, type designations can often be misleading for buyers. This is usually because some manufacturers prefer not to disclose the actual film thickness of their products.

Terms such as Type 50, Type 60, Type 70, Type 80, and Type 100 may suggest that the bags have film thicknesses of 50, 60, 70, 80, or 100 microns. However, this is rarely the case.

What Film Thicknesses Are Available?

We stock garbage bags with film thicknesses ranging from 15 to 150 microns. Bags between 28 and 36 microns (commonly referred to as Type 60) are typically suitable for lightweight waste. Film thicknesses from 45 microns (Type 70) to 85 microns (Type 100) are ideal for medium-weight waste. What Do Transparent, Translucent, and Opaque Mean?

Opaque means that the film is almost completely non-transparent, preventing the contents from being seen. This is achieved by adding a high concentration of color pigments during production.

Translucent (colorless) means the film allows light to pass through but is not completely clear like transparent film. This is common with many garbage bags manufactured from recycled LDPE regranulate. Because recycled raw materials are rarely perfectly clear, the finished bags often have a slightly gray, translucent appearance while still allowing the contents to remain visible.

Colored translucent poly bags are produced using transparent resin combined with a small amount of color pigment. This creates a garbage bag with a subtle color tint, and the intensity of the color can be adjusted according to customer requirements.

Are PE Garbage Bags UV-Resistant?

Standard LDPE films and LDPE bags are not highly UV-resistant. Without additional UV stabilizers, polyethylene products typically have an outdoor service life of approximately 3 months.

Aside from UV exposure, PE films are highly weather-resistant, cold-resistant, frost-resistant, and suitable for demanding outdoor conditions. The primary factor affecting their lifespan is prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV radiation.

Are Garbage Bags Food Safe?

No. Standard garbage bags are generally manufactured from recycled LDPE. Products made from recycled materials are not approved for direct contact with food and should only be used for waste collection and disposal.

For food packaging applications, bags manufactured from virgin polyethylene (virgin-grade material) are required.
