What is a side gusseted sack?
A side gusseted sack is a normal film sack, but with a special feature. The side gusset increases the volume of the sack so that the gusseted sack can hold products better. In most cases, a side gusset sack is used as an inner lining for a cardboard box, freight crate or mesh box because side gusseted sacks are very tear-resistant.
What can gusseted sacks be used for?
Side gusseted bags are used in industry and trade, and sometimes also in construction. If you have goods that have to be protected from dust, dirt, moisture or the weather, a gusseted sack is the ideal solution. The sacks are suitable for storage, sorting and dispatch as well as disposal or archiving. Thanks to the side gusset, the gusseted sacks are very easy to place over the packaged goods, making your work easier.
Design and material
Even if it might seem so, not all side gusseted sacks are the same. There are countless possibilities when it comes to the material and the design. Gusseted sacks are usually made from polyethylene. A further distinction is made here between LDPE, MDPE and HDPE. This describes the density of the polyethylene. In other words, these are low density (LDPE), medium density (MDPE) and high density (HDPE).
Side gusseted bags can be produced perforated on a roll or individually loose in a box. You decide which format is best for you. All formats are possible: rectangular, square, long, wide, short, ... If you have a special request, simply contact us and we will provide you with a customised quote.
The difference between a side gusseted sack and a side gusseted bag
What is the difference between a side gusseted sack and a side gusseted bag? There is no clear answer to this question, but it depends on the size. We have decided on the following definition:
We refer to a side gusseted bag with dimensions up to 400 x 600 mm (width x length).
We refer to bags larger than 400 x 600 mm as side gusseted sack.
The durability of the gusseted sack
Polyethylene is a material that is generally frost-proof and cold-resistant. If the bags are intended for use at extremely low temperatures, please inform our sales department in advance. This way we can coordinate the terms and conditions with you.
If polyethylene is used without any additives, it can become brittle and fragile after just a few months when exposed to UV light. By adding UV masterbatches, we can make the film UV-resistant and UV-stable.
We are able to optimise the durability very well:
- Without any UV additives > approx. 3 months (without guarantee)
- Guaranteed weatherproof / UV-resistant > 6 months (with guarantee)
- Guaranteed weatherproof / UV-resistant > 12 months (with guarantee)
- Guaranteed weatherproof / UV-resistant > 24 months (with guarantee)
- Guaranteed weatherproof / UV-resistant > 36 months (with guarantee)

Is a gusseted sack food-safe?
You can use gusseted sacks for packaging and storing food if:
- the film is made from 100% new material or 1A quality material
- the converting machines and extruders are clean and uncontaminated
- a food certificate is provided
