Long

MEGAFIX Baler Twine, 100 m/kg, Yellow, Long

thickness: 130 m/kg

MEGAFIX 130 Long Baler Twine, Twin Pack When consistent performance and maximum efficiency are essential for high-density baling, MEGAFIX 130 Long baler twine is the reliable choice. Our MEGAFIX baler twine has been specially developed for the latest generation of large square balers. As bale density continues to increase, high-performance twine is required to hold the baled material securely while reducing the risk of loose knots and twine breakage. MEGAFIX baler twine is exceptionally soft, helping to protect the baler knotters and reduce wear. Its fibrillated structure also helps dissipate some of the heat generated by the knotters during operation. This can extend the service life of the knotters and contribute to significant cost savings. This high-density baler twine is suitable for large square balers from all major manufacturers, including both new and older models. What Is Baler Twine?

Baler twine is made from many individual fibers of polypropylene (PP). These fibers are twisted together to form a strong twine or cord. Combined with carefully selected raw materials, the individual fibers provide the required strength and tensile strength. After production, the baling twine is wound onto spools, which are available in different sizes and weights.

What Is Baler Twine Made Of?

Baler twine is commonly made from either polypropylene or fibers obtained from the agave plant. Twine made from agave fibers is known as sisal twine. Sisal is a natural fiber. The twine is coated with oil and decomposes over time, which is why sisal baler twine is often used in organic farming.

  • Material 1: Polypropylene (synthetic plastic, PVC-free)
  • Material 2: Oiled sisal (natural fiber, not hemp)

What Is Baler Twine Used For?

Baler twine is primarily used to secure compressed hay, straw, silage, and haylage. It binds the crop material and keeps the bale together during transport and storage. Sisal baler twine and polypropylene baler twine are commonly used for large square bales and high-density bales. Twine is used less frequently for round bales, mainly with older balers that do not use net wrap. Baling twine is also widely used in vineyards to tie grapevines.

Additional Uses for Baler Twine

  • Pallets and load securing: Binding twine can be used to secure goods on pallets. Some businesses replace stretch film with agricultural twine for certain transport applications. Some large vegetable suppliers also use baler twine to secure produce pallets.

  • Bundling wood: Round bundles of wood can be secured with strong baler twine. The strongest grades, typically 100 to 150 m/kg, are wrapped around the bundle several times and tied either manually or with suitable equipment.

  • Other applications:
    • Gardening: Tying cucumbers, tomatoes, other plants, and shrubs
    • Closing bags, trash bags, garden bags, and similar products
    • Bundling brushwood, branches, and other garden waste
    • Wooden horse manes: Agricultural twine can be used to create manes for wooden toy horses and rocking horses. In this application, color is generally more important than twine strength.
    • Concrete plants: Baler twine can be used as a separating layer during the production of patio slabs to help prevent the slabs from rubbing against one another.

Which Baler Twine Sizes Are Available?

Baler twine is manufactured in many different thicknesses, expressed as running meter. The correct twine size depends on the application, crop, and type of baler:

  • Large square bales: Thicker baler twine, generally 100 to 150 m/kg, is used depending on the baler model and crop material.
  • High-density bales: Thinner baling twine, generally 250 to 400 m/kg, is used because the baling pressure and bale weight are lower.
  • Round bales and vineyards: Very thin twine, generally 750 to 1,000 m/kg, is used for older round balers and vineyard applications.

Understanding Baler Twine Size

In Germany and many other European markets, agricultural twine size is specified in meters per kilogram. Type 400 baler twine therefore provides approximately 400 meters of twine per kilogram. The higher the number, the thinner the twine. The following tables summarize the approximate running length of the available baler twine grades.

The choice between polypropylene baler twine and sisal baler twine depends primarily on the application. Polypropylene baler twine offers high tensile strength, good UV resistance, and a long service life. It is therefore widely used in agriculture for hay, straw, and silage bales. Sisal baler twine is made from natural fibers and is biodegradable. It is often selected when a natural product is preferred or when the twine should decompose after use. Polypropylene is generally the preferred option when maximum strength and cost efficiency are required, while sisal twine is a popular choice for applications that call for a natural fiber.

Which Baler Twine Colors Are Available?

Agricultural and baling twine is available in many colors across Europe and worldwide. Common colors include:

  • Blue
  • Black
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Green
  • White or natural
  • Brown
  • Beige
  • Purple or violet
  • Mint green

Sisal baler twine is available only in its natural color. Blue is by far the most commonly used color for polypropylene baler twine.

Packaging Units and Weights

Agricultural twine is generally supplied as a twin pack containing two spools. Depending on the twine size, each spool usually weighs between 5 and 11 kg. Pallets generally weigh approximately 800 to 1,100 kg. If you have special packaging or quantity requirements, please contact us to discuss the available options.

Baler Twine Types and Construction

Binding twine is available in many different constructions. Depending on the required application, the twine may be soft, hard-twisted, or fibrillated.

Hard-Twisted Baler Twine: Properties, Advantages, and Disadvantages

Hard-twisted twine provides very high tensile strength because it is tightly twisted during production. However, it can be more difficult to knot or join between spools. Hard baler twine can also cause greater wear on the baler knotters.

Soft Baler Twine: Properties, Advantages, and Disadvantages

Soft twine is flexible and easy to knot. It generally causes less wear on baler knotters, although it may provide slightly lower tensile strength than harder twine made from the same raw material.

Fibrillated Baler Twine: Properties

Fibrillated baler twine has a fine, net-like structure that becomes visible when the twine is carefully pulled apart. This type of twine is soft, flexible, and relatively tear-resistant.

Which Baler Twine Brands Are Available in Europe?

The European baler twine market includes a wide range of manufacturers and brands. Some of the best-known baler twine and baling twine brands in Europe include:

Major agricultural machinery manufacturers such as Krone, Claas, John Deere, New Holland, Case, Fendt, Welger, Göweil, and Deutz also offer their own branded baler twine.

UV Resistance and Durability of Baler Twine

Our agricultural twine is UV stabilized for at least 12 months. UV stabilizers added during production help the twine maintain its required tensile strength during outdoor use for this period. Polypropylene twine is also resistant to frost and normal weather conditions.

Baler Twine and the Environment

Sisal baler twine, sisal rope, and other sisal products are made from fibers obtained from agave leaves. Sisal is therefore a natural material that decomposes over time. Polypropylene (PP) is durable, reusable, and recyclable where suitable local collection and recycling systems are available. Its high strength allows efficient use of material over a long service life.

Frequently Asked Questions About Baler Twine

General Information and Applications

Baler twine is primarily used to bind bales of hay, straw, silage, and haylage. It is also used in vineyards and horticulture, as well as for bundling wood and other materials.

There is no significant difference between baler twine and baling twine. The terms are commonly used interchangeably for agricultural twine designed to bind bales and harvested crops.

Type 400 baler twine is commonly used for high-density hay and straw bales. Stronger twine in sizes from 100 to 150 m/kg is generally used for large square bales. The ideal size depends on the bale weight, baler model, and crop material.

Sizes and Properties

Type 400 baler twine provides a running length of approximately 400 meters per kilogram. It is one of the most popular sizes for high-density bales and offers a balanced combination of tensile strength, knot strength, and cost efficiency.

The required tensile strength depends on the bale weight and baling method. Heavy large square bales require particularly strong twine, while lower strength values may be sufficient for lighter high-density or round bales.

The lower the m/kg value, the thicker and stronger the twine. Large square bales generally require 100 to 150 m/kg, high-density bales often use 250 to 400 m/kg, and older round balers may use 750 to 1,000 m/kg.

Materials and Durability

Polypropylene baler twine offers high tensile strength, good UV resistance, and a long service life. Sisal baler twine is made from natural fibers and is biodegradable. The right option depends on the application and your individual requirements.

High-quality polypropylene baler twine is UV stabilized and designed for outdoor use. Under normal conditions, it maintains the required strength for at least one harvest season.

Polypropylene baler twine can be recycled where suitable regional collection and recycling systems are available. Sisal baler twine is made from natural fibers and is biodegradable.
