Buy Windbreak Net Online: Rolls, Custom Lengths and Made-to-Measure Sizes
A windbreak net provides reliable protection for open areas against direct wind without completely sealing them off. Our windbreak nets, also referred to as windscreen nets, wind protection nets or wind barrier nets, are used in barns, horse stables, riding arenas, agricultural buildings, gardens, along fences and on patios.
The open mesh structure breaks up incoming wind while still allowing air to pass through and can reduce directly driven rain. This makes a wind protection net especially suitable for areas that need protection from drafts and weather while still allowing ventilation, rather than being completely enclosed with a tarp or film.
At dm-folien, you can purchase windbreak nets in rolls, custom lengths and made-to-measure sizes. Depending on the version, different widths, mesh sizes and wind reduction levels are available. For custom applications, windscreen nets can also be fabricated with reinforced edges, eyelets, hems, tensioning straps or as roll-up systems.
What is a windbreak net?
A windbreak net is a durable, air-permeable net that significantly reduces the speed of incoming wind. Unlike a solid tarp, a windscreen net does not completely block airflow. Instead, the open mesh structure breaks up the wind so that it reaches the area behind the net at a lower speed.
Our wind protection nets are made from PVC-coated polyester threads. This material combination provides high stability, tear resistance and weather resistance. Depending on the version, the mesh size is approximately 1 x 1 mm or 2 x 2 mm.
In addition to reducing wind, the mesh can also help reduce directly driven rain, hail and sunlight. Its mesh structure also provides a certain degree of privacy.
Which windbreak net is right for my application?
| Application | Recommended Version | What to Consider |
|---|---|---|
| Large barn openings | Fine windbreak net | High wind reduction while maintaining airflow through the mesh |
| Horse stables and riding arenas | Fine windscreen net | Significantly reduce drafts without completely closing off the opening |
| Smaller barn windows and openings | Coarse windbreak net | Greater airflow and lower wind reduction |
| Straw and hay storage | Coarse wind protection net | Maintain air circulation |
| Patios, gardens and seating areas | Fine windbreak net | Consider both wind protection and the desired level of privacy |
| Fences and property boundaries | Fine or coarse windscreen net | Make sure the net is securely fastened |
| Custom dimensions | Custom length or made-to-measure windbreak net | Choose custom fabrication if eyelets, reinforced edges or hems are required |
| Completely enclosed side wall | Tarp or film | Wind protection nets are not completely windproof or waterproof |
Fine or coarse windbreak net: what is the difference?
Our windbreak nets are available in fine and coarse versions. The main differences are mesh size, airflow and wind reduction.
Fine windbreak net with approx. 90% wind reduction
The fine windbreak net has a mesh size of approximately 1 x 1 mm and provides approximately 90% wind reduction. This version is especially suitable for larger areas and applications where a high level of wind protection is required.
Typical applications include:
- large barn openings
- horse stables and riding arenas
- pasture shelters
- carports
- fences
- patios and seating areas
Because of its tighter mesh, the fine windscreen net also provides greater privacy and sun protection.
Coarse windbreak net with approx. 70% wind reduction
The coarse windbreak net has a mesh size of approximately 2 x 2 mm and provides approximately 70% wind reduction. This wind protection net allows more air to pass through and is therefore suitable for smaller openings or areas where greater natural ventilation is desired.
In barns, the coarse version is often used for smaller windows and other openings. Its more open structure can also be useful for straw and hay storage when continued airflow around the stored material is important.
Windbreak net for barns, horse stables and riding arenas
Agriculture is one of the main areas of use for windbreak nets. Open barn sides and large building openings provide natural ventilation but can also create strong drafts when wind conditions are unfavorable.
A wind protection net for barns reduces the speed of incoming air without completely closing off the opening. This applies to cattle and dairy barns as well as horse stables, open stables, riding arenas, pasture shelters and agricultural buildings.
Reduce drafts in horse stables
If direct wind enters a horse stable through an open side or window, a windscreen net for horse stables can significantly reduce the airflow. For larger openings, the fine version with approximately 90% wind reduction is often a suitable choice.
It is important to distinguish between reducing wind and completely sealing an area: A windbreak net remains open and air-permeable. If a barn side needs to be completely closed off against wind and water, a solid tarp or film is the more suitable solution.
Windbreak net for straw and hay storage
A wind protection net can also be used for open straw and hay storage areas. It reduces direct wind and precipitation while the open mesh structure continues to allow air to circulate around the stored material.
Windbreak net for gardens, patios and fences
Windbreak nets are not only suitable for agriculture and barns. In residential applications, they can also be used as wind protection in gardens, on patios, balconies, seating areas, garden structures, carports, fences and gates.
If a patio is regularly exposed to strong winds, a windbreak net can be installed on the side facing the prevailing wind. Unlike a solid barrier, the net allows some air to pass through while reducing direct airflow. At the same time, the windscreen net provides a certain degree of privacy and sun protection.
Installed along a fence, a wind protection net can reduce wind while also serving as an air-permeable privacy screen. Secure and evenly distributed fastening is important, as significant wind forces can act on larger net surfaces.
How much does a windbreak net reduce wind?
Wind reduction depends on the mesh structure of the net. Depending on the version, our windbreak nets provide approximately 70% to 90% wind reduction.
- Fine windbreak net: approx. 90% wind reduction, mesh size approx. 1 x 1 mm
- Coarse windbreak net: approx. 70% wind reduction, mesh size approx. 2 x 2 mm
90% wind reduction does not mean that the windscreen net is completely windproof. Some air can still pass through the mesh. This controlled airflow is exactly what is desired in many applications.
Is a windbreak net completely windproof or waterproof?
No. A windbreak net is generally not completely windproof, waterproof or rainproof. Its purpose is to break up the wind and reduce its speed. The open mesh structure of the wind protection net still allows air to pass through.
Rain can also pass through the windscreen net when driven by sufficient wind pressure. The mesh can reduce direct or wind-driven precipitation, but it does not replace a waterproof tarp or film.
Windbreak net in rolls
Our windbreak nets are available in various widths and roll lengths. Depending on the version, the following dimensions are available:

Windbreak net in custom lengths or made-to-measure sizes?
Windbreak net in custom lengths
If you do not need a full roll, you can order our windbreak net in a custom length. You select the required width and desired length, and the windscreen net is cut from the original roll to the requested length.
Important: Standard custom-length material does not automatically include reinforced edges, eyelets, hems or other custom fabrication.
Made-to-measure windbreak net
For individual projects, we can offer made-to-measure windbreak nets and specially fabricated wind protection nets. Options include:
- windbreak net with eyelets
- windbreak net with reinforced edges
- windbreak net with hem
- windbreak net with tensioning strap
- windbreak net as a curtain or curtain system
- roll-up windbreak net
If you need a made-to-measure windscreen net for a barn or a special fastening solution, request a custom quote.
How is a windbreak net installed?
A windbreak net should be fastened securely and as evenly as possible, especially across larger areas. Wind can create considerable tension forces that act on both the wind protection net and its fastening points.
On barn walls, windscreen nets can be fastened directly to the wall using wooden battens. For other applications, eyelets and fastening systems are also available. HOLDon® eyelets can be attached directly to the windbreak net and provide secure fastening and tensioning.
Depending on the mounting surface, wooden battens, tensioning systems or other suitable fastening solutions can also be used. It is important to distribute the load as evenly as possible.
Material, UV resistance and durability
Our windbreak nets are made from PVC-coated polyester threads and are designed for long-term outdoor use.
- wind reduction depending on the version
- open-mesh, air-permeable construction
- high tear resistance
- weather-resistant
- frost-resistant
- approx. 10 to 12 years of UV resistance
- additional privacy and sun protection
- available in rolls, custom lengths and custom-fabricated sizes
The actual service life of a windscreen net also depends on wind exposure, the quality and number of fastening points, mechanical stress, installation location and proper installation.
Windbreak net or privacy net?
Because of its mesh structure, a windbreak net also provides a certain degree of privacy. However, wind protection nets and privacy nets are designed for different primary purposes.
With a windbreak net, the main purpose is to reduce wind speed. A privacy or shading net, on the other hand, is primarily designed to reduce visibility and sunlight.
For barns, riding arenas or other areas exposed to strong winds, a windscreen net is generally the more suitable choice. If the main goal is to provide privacy for a fence, balcony or garden area, a dedicated privacy net may be more suitable.
When is a tarp or film the better choice?
A windbreak net is especially suitable when wind needs to be reduced while the area should remain air-permeable. If an opening needs to be completely closed off against wind and precipitation, other materials may be more suitable:
- Woven tarps for enclosed coverings and side walls
- Grid or reinforced films for enclosed areas where greater light transmission is desired
- PVC strip or slat curtains for walk-through or drive-through entrances and openings
- Shading and privacy nets when privacy or shading is the primary goal
Buy windbreak net: what should you consider?
If you want to buy a windbreak net, you should consider the following points before ordering:
- Application: Barn, horse stable, riding arena, agricultural building, fence, carport, patio or garden?
- Wind reduction: Do you want maximum wind reduction, or is greater airflow more important?
- Dimensions: Do you need a full roll, a custom length or a made-to-measure windscreen net?
- Fastening: Will the wind protection net be installed using eyelets, wooden battens or a tensioning system?
For larger barn openings and areas exposed to strong winds, a fine windbreak net with approximately 90% wind reduction is often a suitable choice. For smaller openings or areas where greater airflow is desired, the coarse windscreen net with approximately 70% wind reduction may be more suitable.
