What is a bubble film?
Bubble film is an elastic film with bubbles or nubs of different sizes that contain air. This creates a cushion that is primarily used to protect sensitive goods from impacts and damage during shipping. However, there are many other possible applications. You can find out more about this below. In addition to the technical term, there are many other, partially slang terms. Here are a few examples:

What material is bubble film made of?
Bubble film is always made from polyethylene. This is a very environmentally friendly material that can be recycled again and again and new products can be made from it. This means that you are doing your bit for the environment when you fill your parcels with bubble film and your customers dispose of them properly. Polyethylene also has the advantage that it is extremely tear-resistant and stable, even in the thinnest film thicknesses. It also does not allow moisture to pass through and is dust-tight.
Here is a note on organic bubble film: bubble film made from renewable organic raw materials rather than polyethylene has now become established on the market. However, as these films end up on the compost heap and cannot simply be recycled, they are not a particularly good alternative. In addition, the raw materials first have to grow before they can be processed into bubble film. This requires a great ammount of time and physical effort. As "normal" bubble film is easier to produce and more environmentally friendly than organic bubble film, we would rather recommend this option.
What can bubble film be used for?
Bubble film is suitable for many, sometimes very different areas of application.
1. Packaging
Bubble film is mainly used in packaging as protection against impacts. It is used either to fill cavities as packaging material or as shock-absorbing cushioning material in parcels, packages and envelopes. Thanks to the air cushioning, you can protect sensitive and fragile products from damage during shipping. Bubble film is also used for private or commercial relocations to transport shock-sensitive and fragile items safely and without damage.
2. Greenhouse insulation
Both professional and amateur gardeners have discovered the positive effect of bubble film on greenhouses. In this case, it is stretched directly over the existing greenhouse film or grid film. This provides even better protection from winter temperatures for the plants in the greenhouse. The bubble film is very good at retaining and insulating the heat from the sun in the greenhouse. This creates the ideal conditions for the plants inside. The concept also works wonderfully for the overwintering of heavy potted plants in the garden, which you can't just move when the temperatures drop. To achieve the maximum effect, you will need a special insulating film. This should have three layers and 30 mm nubs. Only this way it can fulfil its insulating function optimally.
3. Window insulation
Bubble film can be used as temporary window insulation in the shell construction of properties and for smaller projects such as a small house in the garden. The film should also have three layers for this purpose.
4. Temperature-sensitive products
You can use special aluminium or PET-laminated bubble film to store or transport temperature-sensitive products. You can also find this type of film in our online shop.
5. Aeroplane models
Model aircraft enthusiasts also use aluminium or PET laminated bubble film. This protects sensitive individual parts such as wings, propellers and rotor blades, especially from high temperatures and intense sunlight. Bubble film also does the same during transport. In addition to its purely protective functions, the aluminium foil also looks very elegant.
6. Swimming pool in the garden
If you have a small swimming pool in the garden, you can also use a suitably wide and long bubble wrap for insulation. On cool days and at night, stretch it over the pool to keep the water warm. With heated pools, you also save a considerable amount of energy as you don't have to constantly heat up the water.

There is an almost endless number of designs in which bubble film can be produced. Here are just a few examples:

What thickness must bubble film have for shipping my goods?
Bubble film is usually produced in many different thicknesses. These range from 50 my to 250 my. Bubble film with a thickness of 50 to 80 my (the best-selling film thicknesses in Germany) is ideal for all light and normally sensitive products as well as glass, porcelain and other tableware. Regardless of whether you are in the mail order business or are relocating - with our bubble film you can easily protect your goods.
In order to protect and transport extremely sensitive and heavy products, you need a thicker film. Film thicknesses from 100 my upwards are recommended in this case. Such bubble film is characterised by a higher protective effect as well as a more stable and tear-resistant structure. In this case, you should also opt for bubble film with large bubbles (30 mm). These bubbles provide additional cushioning and also make a positive impact on protection during transport.
What do the layers of bubble film mean?
Bubble film is made from several layers of LDPE film. Bubble film can be either 2-ply or 3-ply. In 2-ply bubble film, a smooth layer and a layer from which the bubbles are "pulled" are welded together so that the smooth layer seals the bubbles from below. In the case of 3-layer bubble film, an additional layer is welded onto the bubbles so that the bubbles are enclosed from both sides. The overall thickness and the protective effect are the same in both cases. In contrast to the 2-layer version, 3-layer bubble film is only smooth on the outside and slightly stiffer.

Which bubble film should I use for insulation?
There are basically two versions of our bubble film available for insulation purposes. The first version is our PET/ALU bubble film. With a total thickness of 250 µ, it is extra thick and additionally laminated with a silver PET/ALU film, which additionally shields temperatures from the inside and outside. This bubble film is particularly popular with model aircraft enthusiasts to protect the wings of model aeroplanes.
For insulation in horticulture, e.g. for greenhouses, we recommend our UV bubble film. It is 150 µ thick and has UV protection, which makes the film more resilient for outdoor use. This version of our bubble film is also particularly suitable as an insulation layer in hall roofs.

Is bubble film food-safe?
Our bubble film is food-safe. It is made from LDPE film, which does not emit any chemicals or microplastics. The bubble film can therefore safely come into direct contact with food. However, our film can only be used in clean rooms to a limited extent, as we cannot exclude the possibility of tiny particles from the value creation process adhering to the film.

How strong is bubble film?
The total thickness of bubble film is usually between 60 and 150 µ. The thickness indicates how thick the film is when all layers are combined. In addition to the thickness, bubble film also has an overall thickness. This depends on the bubble size. For bubble film with small bubbles with a diameter of 10 mm, the thickness is approx. 4 mm. For large bubbles with a diameter of 30 mm, the thickness is approx. 10 mm. You can find the different thicknesses in our online shop, where you can easily order bubble film.
Can I have my bubble film printed?
Printed bubble film is rather rare. Nevertheless, you can have your film printed, for example, with your company logo or a recycling symbol. Get in touch with us and let us know your requirements. We will carry out the printing directly at the factory using the files you send us and then send you the end product.
What accessories do I need if I want to use bubble film?
In order to be able to process your barrier layer of bubble film optimally and quickly, we recommend purchasing certain accessories. You can find these in our shop:

Are there alternatives to bubble film?
You can also use packing foam or PE foam as a substitute for bubble film. Another alternative, which does not come from the film sector, would be packaging chips as cushioning and filling material to protect sensitive goods from breaking. We also offer bubble bags to ship your goods professionally.
How is bubble film packaged?
To protect our goods from dust, dirt and moisture during storage and transport, we pack all film rolls in sturdy HDPE bags. If a roll is at least one metre wide, we use one bag per roll.
