What Is PE Film?
Polyethylene film, also known as PE film, is a type of plastic film made from polyethylene, a thermoplastic polymer. It is a highly versatile material used in a wide range of applications, including packaging, insulation, construction, and many industrial and agricultural uses (for example as construction film).
Where Is Film Used?
The range of applications for PE film is extremely broad.
In the packaging industry, PE film is used to protect and preserve food, medical products, and other goods (for example bubble wrap). It is moisture-resistant and airtight and can be processed into bags, packaging, and containers that keep food fresh and prevent contamination.
In insulation, PE film is used to reflect heat and light. It is commonly applied in buildings and vehicles to improve energy efficiency and comfort.
PE film is also used in the construction of greenhouses, where it helps retain heat and increase crop yields (mesh films / greenhouse films). In agriculture, LDPE silage films are used to protect silage (maize/grass) in silos or drive-in silos. These films create an oxygen barrier that preserves silage for several months.
In addition, agricultural stretch films (wrap films) are widely used for silage preservation. Other films frequently used by farmers include mantle films, side wall films, and underlay films.
For transport protection of pallets, cartons, or parcels, stretch films are commonly used. As a supplement, cover sheet films protect pallets from above against dirt and moisture. Tubular films are also used to effectively protect goods and can even be processed into downpipe hoses.
PE film is also used in the manufacture of industrial products such as pipes, cables, and geomembranes. The material is highly resistant to chemicals and UV radiation, making it ideal for outdoor applications (wood cover films / protective cover films).
Furthermore, PE films can be used as vapour barrier films (flame-retardant B1 films) at large events in sports halls, exhibition halls, and stadiums. Outdoors, PE films are often used as pond liners due to their excellent properties: UV-resistant, rot-resistant, frost-resistant, root-resistant, resistant to microorganisms and chemicals, and free from plasticisers.
