What is a gusseted bag?
A gusseted bag is a film bag with gussets inserted on both sides. Gusseted bags are usually made of polyethylene. The bags are open on one side and have no closure. For technical production reasons, gusseted bags are always produced with a bottom seam. Gusseted bags are made from flat tubular film or gusseted tubular film.
What are the advantages of gusseted bags over flat bags?
Gusseted bags can be used like flat bags as normal packaging bags. Gusseted bags and gusseted sacks are ideal as liners for boxes, cartons, KLTs, grid boxes and much more. They are also practical as a cover for any cubic objects such as filled pallets, machines, tables, chairs, etc. The special shape of gusseted bags ensures that the bag "transforms" into a kind of cube-shaped cover during use and adapts perfectly to the package or the object to be covered.
If you use a normal flat sack or flat bag for the above-mentioned purpose, the corners will protrude slightly, which may be annoying or not very visually appealing.

The purpose of LDPE gusseted bags
Poly bags are very flexible and versatile – you can use them to package any product. The reason for this is the protection against dust, dirt and moisture. Textiles or medical products are often stored in bags as they provide good dust protection, high tear resistance and are food-safe, for example. They are also ideal for storing food such as fruit, vegetables or bread. They are suitable for packaging pet food as well.
As PE gusset bags are very tear-resistant, they are often used as packaging material to protect products from damage during transport. In the warehouse, they can be used to separate different screws or other small parts. They are also a good solution of sorting things. They can help in the catering and household sectors, as our PE gusseted bags are suitable for packaging and freezing food.

How do I determine the circumference of gusseted bags?
Use the following formula to calculate the circumference of gusseted bags:
2 x width + 2 x side gusset = circumference
Example:
Bag dimensions: 600 + 400 x 800 mm
2 x 600 mm (width) + 2 x 400 mm (side gusset) = 2000 mm circumference (= 2 m circumference)
How do I calculate the diameter of the opening?
To calculate the diameter (Ø) of the opening, use the following formula:
Circumference of the bag (see above) is divided by π (= 3.14)
Example:
Bag circumference = 2000 mm
U = 2000 mm / 3.14 = 636.94 mm diameter (Ø)

What is the difference between gusseted bags and gusseted sacks?
The only difference between them is the size. Unfortunately, there is no standard for classifying the size of bags and sacks. If you are unsure, simply take a quick look at the film sacks section. Here you will of course find the larger dimensions. The shrink hoods section may also be of interest to you, as shrink hoods are nothing more than large gusseted bags and are suitable for all standard grid box pallets, Euro pallets and disposable pallets.
What colours are available?
Most gusseted bags are see-through, transparent or clear, as this is usually desired and raw materials are naturally transparent. In the food industry, bags made of blue-translucent material are predominantly used in order to immediately visually recognise any plastic contaminants in the food.
Do you want your bag to be opaque? No problem, we can colour LDPE bags opaque - which means you can have your bag in any colour. Whether it has to be red, blue, yellow, green, pink, pink, purple, orange, black, white or whatever other colours you want - anything is possible!
Opaque PE bags are just as feasible as translucent PE bags. Translucent stands for "see-through". In our industry, the following distinctions are made:
- Transparent - clear, transparent, see-through material, without any colouring
- Translucent - material with a controlled percentage colour, but transparent / translucent to a certain degree
- Opaque - non-transparent / coloured opaque
What thicknesses are available for our gusseted bags?
No matter whether you need a thickness of 10 my, 15 my, 18 my, 20 my, 25 my, 30 my, 50 my, 70 my, 100 my and so on. On request we can offer you anything between 8 my (wafer-thin) and 250 my (very strong and stable).
Printed gusseted bags
Bags made of polyethylene and polypropylene can be printed without any problems. It doesn't matter whether you want a standard print (e.g. warning notice, recycling symbol, DSD, green dot) or a customised print such as your company logo, brand or other advertising imprints. Gusseted bags can be printed on one or both sides. Of course, the print can be in one or more colours.

Material density / specific gravity of LDPE & weight calculation for flat bags
To calculate the weight of gussets, this simple mathematical formula needs to be applied:
(width + gusset) x length x thickness x 2 x specific weight of LDPE (0.92) / 1000 = weight per 1000 bags
Let's assume you want to calculate the weight of 1000 LDPE bags (600 + 400 x 800 mm) with a thickness of 50µ. Then the calculation is as follows:
(600 + 400) x 800 x 0.05 x 2 x 0.92 / 1000 = 73.60 kg per 1000 pieces.
It is always useful to have this formula on hand. You can easily calculate how heavy your gusseted bags will be. Quality and strength checks can also be calculated quickly and easily using this formula.
Packaging units for LDPE bags
Depending on the size/dimension and thickness, gusseted bags are bundled with a rubber band in batches of 100 pieces and packed in handy, sturdy cardboard boxes of 400 to 1000 or 2000 pieces. When packing our stock items, we always ensure that they are easy to handle and that the weight and box size are optimized for parcel services. Each box is neatly sealed with adhesive tape / packaging tape. Our pallets are packed with a maximum weight of approx. 500 - 750 kg. All pallets are neatly and securely packed with stretch film so that the goods arrive at the customer undamaged.

How our products are shipped and delivered?
Depending on the order quantity purchased, shipping varies between parcel service (DHL) and freight forwarder. Smaller quantities up to a weight of 30 kg (per box, maximum 5 boxes) are usually sent by parcel service. Large quantities are dispatched on pallets by our in-house freight forwarder. There are no upper limits. The delivery time for stock items is 1-2 working days, depending on the time you order and how busy the parcel service or freight forwarder is. For customised products, the delivery time can be approx. 1 - 4 weeks depending on the design, country of origin, urgency and quantity. Collection of the goods from us in Reutlingen is of course possible by prior arrangement.
The polyethylene material and the environment
Products made from polyethylene are one of the most environmentally friendly packaging options available. A LDPE bag can be recycled an infinite number of times and the basic material hardly loses any of its quality. The bags can often be reused several times. They are hygienic, food-safe and completely non-toxic, as they contain neither plasticisers nor heavy metals. No toxic gases are produced either during the production of the material or during the production of a gusseted bag made from PE and PP. What's more, plastic bags burn into carbon dioxide and water without leaving any residue.
