What is a bag-in-box?

A bag-in-box is an innovative, alternative type of packaging for liquids. It consists of two main components: a transparent, food-safe bag (bag/juice bag) made of polyethylene and EVOH with original VITOP closure (outlet tap) and a stable BIB carton (box), which is used as outer packaging to protect against external influences and can be used several times. Both components are made of recyclable materials, which is why they can be disposed of easily and separately and are therefore environmentally friendly.

Stand-up pouches are self-standing bag-in-box pouches that do not require any additional outer packaging. The bags are made of a high-strength plastic film that protects the contents from light, oxygen and damage.

What is a bag-in-box used for?

A bag-in-box is used for the long-term storage of liquids such as wine, cider and sweet mustjuice, fruit juice, liqueurs, distillates, cooking oil, soups, milk, water or vinegar. As the juice bag is filled under vacuum, the liquid can be kept for up to two years. The sturdy bag-in-box carton is reusable up to 40 times and protects the bag-in-box bag from sunlight (UV radiation) - another reason for its long shelf life. The bag-in-box cardboard is designed to fit the bag-in-box bag and has cut-outs for the VITOP outlet tap (closure). The bag-in-box can be easily transported using the grip holes. In addition, the cardboard box ensures a stable stand and a nice look.

Transport and storage of bag-in-boxes

The bag-in-box is a very efficient way of transporting liquids. Thanks to its lightweight and compact packaging, the bag-in-box requires a small storage space when it is empty. Fherefore bag-in-boxes have significant advantages over glass or plastic bottles during transportation. Thanks to the stackable cuboid shape and the optimal use of space of the bag, a bag-in-box can be transported and stored in a compact way. Sealing is also quick and easy – no packaging tape is required! Even filled bag-in-box units can be stacked and save a lot of space during storage.

Filling and dispensing liquids

The bag-in-box is simply and efficiently filled with juice, wine or similar liquids using a vacuum filling system. The liquids have a shell life of at least two years if unopened. Many winemakers now use the bag-in-boxes to bottle their quality wine (red/white wine), which does not result in any loss of quality or change in taste.
Dispensing of liquids in the bag-in-box is done safely and cleanly with the VITOP outlet tap, which ensures drip-free dispensing. The liquid does not come into contact with the ambient air, which prevents fermentation and oxidation processes. Once opened, the contents can be consumed for up to two months without any loss of flavour.

The bags-in-box cartons are available in two designs (apples with a green background and a carton with a wooden box look). The dimensions are as follows:

Dispatch of bag-in-boxes

We always ship our products in the most climate and environmentally friendly way. Thanks to the space-saving feature, 450 pcs (for 5 litre bags) or 350 pcs (for 10 litre bags) of the bag-in-box bags fit into one shipping box. The bag-in-box cartons are shipped in packs of 100 pcs (for 3 litre cartons), 75 pcs (for 5 litre cartons) or 50 pcs (for 10 litre cartons) per shipping carton. All bag-in-boxes in the shop can be delivered immediately from stock and are shipped quickly and cost-effectively by DHL or a forwarding agent.

Stand-up pouches/juice pouches can be a very good alternative to the bag-in-box. The stand-up pouch also has a VITOP outlet tap for easy dispensing and a practical carrying handle for transport.
